Vinyl Grading Guide
Pipers Records – Vinyl Grading Guide
Grading can vary from store to store, so at Pipers Records we use a clear and consistent grading system for all pre‑owned vinyl.
Our Grades
M (Sealed)
Brand new and factory sealed.
M‑ (Unsealed Mint)
Unsealed but unplayed. As new.
VG+ (Very Good Plus)
Light signs of use. A few minor marks that don’t affect play. Sleeve may show slight wear.
VG (Very Good)
Visible marks or surface wear but plays well overall. Sleeve shows noticeable wear or ringwear.
G+ (Good Plus)
Heavier wear. Plays from start to finish with more consistent surface noise. Sleeve may have creases, edge wear, or small tears.
G (Good)
Well‑used copy with clear noise and imperfections. Sleeve has heavy wear. Ideal as a casual or filler copy.
F (Fair)
Major wear or damage. May skip. Sleeve heavily worn.
Extra Accuracy
Records that fall between grades will be marked with a “–” (minus) for clearer detail (e.g., VG–, G+–).
